Because they are devoted, friendly, and intelligent, Golden Retrievers are the third-most popular breed of dog, following Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds. Because of their qualities, they are favored as both hunting and guide dogs.
The story of the Golden Retriever begins in Scotland in 1865, the same year the American Civil War ended. Dudley Marjoribanks, a Scottish landowner, purchased the only yellow puppy in a litter of black wavy-coated retrievers. The Scotsman wished to breed quality retrievers for the environment of his Scottish homeland, and he joined the yellow dog to a Tweed Water Spaniel and kept the yellow pups that resulted.
The friendly Golden Retrievers look ready to wag their tails and play. Let them loose as decorations or prizes at a dog-themed party, use them in charms or bracelets to remember favorite family pets, or use them as gifts for other dog lovers.
