Lions are considered vulnerable throughout their range, which includes most of sub-Saharan Africa, except for regions of thick rainforest or heavily settled areas. Lions also maintain a tiny enclave in northwest India, the last remnant of Asian Lions. Lions were once more widespread in Africa, and their range extended into more of Asia and even Europe.
