Description
Flamingoes live in tropical and subtropical areas of South American, the Caribbean, Africa, India, and the Mediterranean. They number in the millions worldwide. Although not migratory, flamingoes will move within their range for better breeding or feeding grounds.
Flamingoes are thought to have appeared around 30 million years ago, and they are related to storks, herons, and ibises, and other long-legged birds that live near water. Scientists have long struggled to classify flamingoes because they share traits with such a wide variety of other birds. They have bone structures similar to storks, egg composition like herons, and behavior patterns resembling those of geese.
With a small base for extra stability, these lovely pink flamingoes can stand tall as cupcake decorations, or they make fun party favors and classroom prizes.
